Melanie Neumann

Melanie Neumann is the executive vice president and general counsel for Matrix Sciences. Neumann provides regulatory, operational and brand reputation risk mitigation advice to the food and beverage industry, helping companies manage these various risks in today’s ever-changing risk landscape. She leverages her 19 years of industry experience as a food law attorney along with her Masters of Science in Food Safety to help clients manage the risks relating to each step in the supply chain, from supplier assessment and procurement, manufacturing, distribution and sale of food globally. Neumann is a graduate of Mitchell-Hamline Law School for her juris doctorate degree, and Michigan State University for her M.S. in food safety. She has worked for multi-national food companies such as Hormel Foods, The Schwan Food Company, private law firms focusing on food law and intellectual property law, was instrumental in launching national food safety risk management practices for Pricewaterhouse Coopers, and boutique consulting firms.
 

Martin Wiedmann, Dr. med. vet, Ph.D.
Geller Family Professor of Food Safety
Cornell University

Martin received a veterinary degree and a doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from the Ludwig-Maximilians University in Munich, and a Ph.D. in Food Science from Cornell, where he currently is the Gellert Family Professor of Food Safety. His research interests focus on farm-to-table microbial food quality and food safety. He and his team are regularly asked to help industry across the world with a range of microbial food safety and quality challenges. He received the Young Scholars award from the American Dairy Science Association in 2002, the Samuel Cate Prescott Award from Institute of Food Technologists’ in 2003, the International Life Science Institute North America Future Leaders Award in 2004, and the American Meat Institute Foundation Scientific Achievement Award in 2011. He is a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), a fellow of the Institute of Food Technologists (IFT), a fellow of the American Academy of Microbiology (AAM), and a member of the International Academy of Food Science and Technology.

In his career, Peter has focused on differentiating brands, creating new products and services.  He has launched 20 new products and services in numerous market segments. Peter gained pest management experience when he joined Orkin Pest Control as the Sr. Director of Strategy and Innovation.   Leveraging his passion and experience, Peter is one of the cofounders of a startup venture at Bayer which ultimately became the Digital Pest Management business which launched the Bayer Rodent Monitoring System in 2017.

Tracie Sheehan is currently leading Technical Services at Mérieux NutriSciences (Silliker) which provides our customers with auditing, consulting, training, and labeling services.  Prior to this role she served as Chief Health, Quality & Sustainability Officer for ARYZTA for 7 years. She previously worked for the Sara Lee Corporation as Senior Vice President of Food Safety and Scientific Affairs for 8 years and Kellogg Company for 11 years.

Maria has more than a decade of experience in journalism, marketing, and communications within the publishing, conferences and medical device industry. She has authored more than 250 articles that have appeared in domestic and international industry publications and has moderated educational sessions and panel discussions at industry events. Maria joins Innovative Publishing from Secant Medical, Inc., where she was the Marketing Communications Manager and Market Research Manager. Maria has a B.A. in Journalism and Mass Communications with a concentration in New Media and Visual Design, and a Minor in Fine Arts, from St. Michael’s College in Colchester, VT.
